What is Massage?
What can massage do for me?
Massage is useful to relax the muscle and the nervous system. It's hard for our bodies to move in an unrestricted way when there is tension and tightness of the muscular system. Chronically tight muscles can restrict nerve flow which in turn produces sharp, electric type nerve pain. Bunched muscles can also reduce flow of fluids that would normally move through and past the muscles. This reduces blood, lymph and nutrient flow to the muscles themselves and everything 'down stream'.
Tight muscles can be created by and perpetuate stress. When we think of our stressor, our shoulders may tense up. after a little bit, our shoulders are sore, so think, and stress about our pain, which causes our shoulders to tighten. Massage can help break this cycle.
